Frequently Asked Questions — Clayton's Web Design

Answers to the questions we hear most often from small business owners in Melbourne considering a new website.

Pricing & Fees

What are your prices?

Starter / Landing Page: $900–$1,400. Professional (most popular): $2,200–$3,200. Business: $4,500–$7,500+. All prices quoted upfront — no hidden extras.

What's included in the price? Are there hidden costs?

The quoted price includes everything to launch: custom design, development, mobile optimisation, basic SEO setup, and the agreed revision rounds. Hosting and domain are separate ongoing costs. There are no hidden fees.

Do I have to pay everything upfront?

No — 50% deposit to start work, 50% on completion before launch. We never ask for full payment before work begins.

Is the $79 Website Direction Preview a design service?

No — it's a decision-making guide, not a design. You receive: a homepage structure recommendation, a diagnosis of your business's main digital problem, a prioritised feature list, and clear next steps. The $79 is fully deducted if you proceed with a full project.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes — referral discounts apply if you refer someone who proceeds with a project. Reduced rates are also available for registered charities and community organisations.

Process & Timeline

What's the process from start to finish?

Free consultation → agree on scope and price → 50% deposit → design and build → client review and revisions → final approval → launch → optional ongoing care plan.

How long does it take?

Starter: 1–2 weeks. Professional: 2–4 weeks. Business: 4–8 weeks. Timeline depends on how quickly feedback is provided.

How many revisions do I get?

Starter: 1 revision round. Professional: 2 revision rounds. Business: unlimited revision rounds.

Technical Questions

Who owns the website once it's built?

You own 100% of the website, code, content, and assets once the project is paid in full.

What platform do you build on?

Primarily custom code (React/Next.js) for performance, speed, and full ownership. For clients who want to edit content themselves, we use Wix — which is user-friendly and requires no technical knowledge.

Do you use WordPress?

We don't recommend WordPress for most clients. It's slow without significant optimisation, requires constant plugin updates, and is frequently targeted by hackers. We use Wix for client-editable sites instead — it's more secure, faster, and easier to use.

Will I be able to edit my own website?

Yes, if you choose the Wix-based option. For custom-coded sites, content updates are included in the care plans.

SEO & Getting Found on Google

Will my website show up on Google?

All websites include basic SEO setup and Google Search Console submission. Meaningful search rankings typically take 3–6 months of ongoing effort. The Standard Care and Growth Plan care plans include monthly SEO work for faster and sustained results.

Do you do local SEO?

Yes — we optimise for local Melbourne searches and Eastern Suburbs keywords. We can also set up and optimise your Google Business Profile.

Hosting & Care Plans

Who hosts the website?

Clayton manages hosting directly — you don't need to deal with any hosting companies, cPanel, or technical configurations. Care plans start at $50–$80/month for Basic Hosting.

What are the care plan options?
